"The internet has taught me something about judging people based on what I see physically. Most people I know really well I knew before I saw how they looked. I don’t add randoms on my Facebook and initially I don’t go around posting pictures of myself because that’s not what’s important to me. When I consider the physically tangible world or “real life” and all the times I’ve shied from talking to someone just because of something I see, I remember all the wonderful people I know via the internet and how somewhat voided I’d feel if I never knew them. We’re all guilty of surface judging at one point or another but I can hand pick one person in particular that helped me interact with someone I would not have approached but would have talked to if said person spoke to me because I’m not one to deny a conversation. The thing is that perhaps the stranger isn’t confused but it is us with our preconceptions. We deny ourselves the privilege of knowing someone for one reason or another. If you don’t want to be perceived based on something that doesn’t define you, then don’t define someone because of something you’ve perceived. The true thief here are our assumptions."
